The Website Widget is the primary web chat channel for site visitors. Use it when customers should be able to start a conversation from your website, get AI-assisted answers, and escalate to the right human team when needed.

Before you start

  • Confirm the website domain where the widget will be installed.
  • Create or select the support AI agent that should answer visitor questions.
  • Create the team that should receive escalations, if escalation should not go to the whole workspace.
  • Prepare brand values such as logo URL, accent color, support label, and legal links.
  • Decide whether visitors should identify themselves with email, phone, OTP, or signed identity verification.

Create the widget channel

1

Open Channels

In Sagepilot, go to Settings > Channels or open Channels from the workspace sidebar, then click Create Channel.
2

Select Website Widget

Choose Website Widget from the Website category.
3

Set the basics

Add the widget display name, website URL, and AI agent. The display name appears in the widget header and should match the support experience customers recognize.
4

Tune appearance

Set the accent color, logo URL, launcher position, launcher text, bottom padding, and closed button size so the widget sits cleanly on your site.
5

Write the first interaction

Configure the welcome popup, landing-page greeting, main CTA, conversation starters, and escalation callout. Keep these short and task-oriented.
6

Configure identity and legal settings

Enable contact fields, OTP verification, legal links, and identity verification based on how much customer context your support flow requires.
7

Install the script

Save the channel and add the generated widget script to your website before the closing </body> tag or through your tag manager. For single-page apps, Shopify, and other install options, see Web SDK installation.

Developer guides

The Website Widget is powered by the Sagepilot Web SDK. Your developers can use it to control the widget from your site’s code.

Open chat from your own button

Open the chat from any button, link, or banner, and hide the floating launcher.

Identify customers

Link chats to signed-in customers and set up identity verification.

Web SDK reference

Every window.ChatWidget method and what it returns.

Verify the setup

  1. Open the website in an incognito browser.
  2. Confirm the launcher placement does not block important page controls.
  3. Start a conversation and send a test message.
  4. Confirm a ticket appears in Sagepilot with the Website Widget channel.
  5. Escalate the conversation and confirm it routes to the expected team.

Operational notes

  • If the widget appears on checkout or app pages, test on mobile and desktop before publishing.
  • If OTP is enabled through your own Email or WhatsApp channel, verify those channels first.
  • If identity verification is enabled, generate the identity hash on your server. Do not expose signing secrets in frontend code. See Identity verification.
